I find the fact that there is one day to celebrate Mother's annually, as nice as it seems just doesn't feel enough. I wanted to speak about how important it is to appreciate Mother's all year round. The ones that watch their bodies change to house the life of another. The ones that sacrifice filling their own cups because they put their families first. The ones that mourn their career that they dreamed of even though they are so grateful for their little ones. Motherhood comes with a tax and that tax comes in so many varieties that can't necessarily be seen by others. Appreciating Motherhood is so much more than a gift annually.

Also to the Bonus mom's, the Grandmother's, the siblings, the friend's that all have stepped up and taken on the role even on the toughest of days, providing love is always at the forefront.

Mother's day can bring up so many feelings for different people. If Mother's day isn't as full of Tulips and happiness as social media is ramming down your throat, I get it.

If your childhood wasn't filled with maternal love and support, if you are feeling loss for what could of been, the little souls that were too precious for this world or for your maternal figures. If you feel that because you have decided you don't want children, people judge you and assume you'll change your mind. Please know this day can be for you too, as you deserve to be able to embrace any emotion that comes up on this day and you are not alone.

Here is some simple ways to be with your feelings today and celebrate in your own way.

  • If you are feeing loss today something that brings me comfort is to bake or cook something they used to make. It's a lovely way to feel close to them.

  • Playing a song that reminds you of them, sitting for a little while with a candle.

  • Let yourself feel your feelings in which ever way feels right, write down a few things that you love about yourself, what you are proud of and really take some time to be kind to yourself.

  • Give yourself permission to slow down, a spring walk, a few pages of a book, a little treat just for you to savour. You are worthy.

However you spend this day, your feelings are valid and please look after yourself. Remember social media families are not always as shiny in reality.

Sending you all my love.
